Industry specific general advice !
If you are considering the purchase of new carpets or rugs, it is
important to remember certain things about carpet advertising and
pricing. Be careful when dealers advertise carpet by the room at a
set price; their rooms may not be equivalent in size of yours. Be
alert to whether ads quote prices on a square-foot or square-yard
basis. Prices typically do not include installation, which can add
substantially to the total cost.
In making a final choice, select your retailer with care, including a
check with the BBB. Make sure that the contract is specific as to the
brand, manufacturer, style, color, size, amount of carpet being
bought, and installation. Similarly, the warranty should be in
writing and specific. If you are having your carpeting installed,
never pay more than 50% up front; pay the balance on completion.
